UCL Duopoly Continuation?

        UCL Duopoly Continuation?

The last 16 teams remaining in the knock out stages of the UCL.

The UEFA Champions League competition has been heavily dominated by the English and Spanish teams in recent years.

In fact, only Bayern Munich have successfully broken the dominance of winning the Champions League between the Spanish and English clubs in the last nine seasons back in 2013, when the Bavarians became victorious at the expense of their local rivals from Germany, Borussia Dortmund.

During those nine previous seasons in the UCL, the most prestigious trophy in world's club football was oscillating only between the Spanish and English clubs, revolving around Manchester United, FC Barcelona, Chelsea FC, Real Madrid, and Liverpool respectively.

Now, the final 16 teams have qualified to the knock out stages with all the four representatives each from both the English and Spanish football clubs fully represented, as they all qualified to the round of 16.

Real Madrid, ranked number one on the UEFA rank list will always be a favorite to lift the trophy again after winning the competition three times in a row from 2016 to 2018.

Barcelona on the other hand, have gone four seasons without winning,  after their 3-1 triumph against Juventus in 2014/15 season. They are hungrier than ever and thinking this is the right time to win it again.

Liverpool will also fancy their chances as the defending champions, to retain the trophy even if it means shedding the last blood in order to hold on to the title.

Likewise Manchester City, having 'totally dominated' the English football's competitions last season, they will want to make that final push to lift this season's Champions League for the first time in history and change the thoughts of being termed 'local champions'.

These four teams are highly regarded as favorites to win the competition. Unless an experienced team like Bayern Munich or Juventus with their talismanic Cristiano Rinaldo comes out of the blue to claim the trophy come the end of the season.
Until then...
It remains to be seen.
